To wich is prefix'd a discourse concerning the original and progress of Satyr. The Fifth Edition, adorn'd with sculptures. 12mo (17 cm). cxi, (1) 296 pages, and 25 full-page engraved plates, including frontispiece, portrait of Dorset, portrait of Persius, and allegories of each satire. Bound in full calf ruled in gilt, with leather title label. Binding worn, abraded on lower board. Contents very fresh. Armorial bookplate of Sir William Beauchamp Proctor (1781-1861). The introductory essay by Dryden 'on the Original and Progress of Satyr' is one of the first English critical studies of satire.
